Anti-Gay Church to Protest at Elmbrook Church
Westboro Baptist Church, a group that protests military funerals, will be in Wisconsin this weekend at area churches in metro Milwaukee.
An anti-gay church that has a reputation for picketing funerals of military members who were killed in action is coming to southeastern Wisconsin and plans to protest at area churches.
Westboro Baptist Church in 2011 pledged to increase its protests after it was determined they could picket military funerals under the First Amendment. The group pickets military funerals with anti-gay messages as it believes that military deaths are God's punishment for homosexuality in the United States.
The Westboro Baptist Church’s website states it will be at the mega-church from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Elmbrook Church services on Sundays are 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
"WBC will picket the dog-kennel masquerading as a church known as Elmbrook Church in religious protest and warning," the group said. "These phony preachers lie about God's word in order to fill the pews and collect more money."
Other protests in the Milwaukee area on Sunday (unless otherwise indicated) include:
- Hales Corners Lutheran
- Basilica of St. Josaphat, Milwaukee
- Grace Lutheran in Milwaukee
- Oak Creek Assembly of God
- Christian Faith Fellowship Church of God, Milwaukee
- Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist, Milwaukee
- Miller Park (July 4)
- Dane County Courthouse (July 6)
- Wisconsin Capitol (July 6)
Christine Jacobs at Oak Creek Assembly of God told WTMJ4 that the Westboro group’s goal is to upset people. “The Bible says we are to live in peace with everyone, that we are to do everything in love,” she told the TV station.
An Elmbrook church-goer told WISN 12 that Elmbrook’s message “is that we should be showing love towards people that maybe don't agree with us.”

I think churches should respond as Elmbrook and Oak Creek are, with love. Do something nice for them...

Matthew 5:43-47 The Message (MSG)
43-47"You're familiar with the old written law, 'Love your friend,' and its unwritten companion, 'Hate your enemy.' I'm challenging that. I'm telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that.

My hope will be that they are not allowed on the church property, lawns, driveways, right of ways. One can be friendly n wish them a good day. But they shouldn't be allowed up close enough to disrupt the worship services. They need to stay to the roads!! I go to hear positive things about the Lord and any praising of the Lord in the messages they esbounding on are blasphemous!!

Your comment makes me sick. These men and women served our country and many gave up thier lives for us and to have someone say this is completely wrong. I wish you were on the battle field and watched and seen how many loss thier lives. Being a christian myself you don't know how hard it was to answer this comment the way I did but i'm being taught the proper way to reply.

I first encountered these people in Memphis 20 years ago. Their message is vicious and vile.

I think the churches involved should respond with dignity and ignore these benighted fools completely.`

I think we should organize a counter protest. A protest claiming that God loves them and wants them even if they do not believe. Maybe we could even have lemonade and snacks to offer them. What do you think?

Puleez! "..the best bible thumpers in the land"? I wasn't aware that Bible thumping was the way to the Lord and salvation. Jesus taught forgiveness not damnation. If it were up to the wbc all of those sinners that came to be saved (the tax collectors, the adulterers, prostitutes, ect) would have been called names and turned away by the church. The beauty of salvation is that is not only for the holy, but those who need to be made whole.

The pharisees were the greatest irritant to Pauls ministry, and pride usually presedes a fall. I belive in showing compassion and love but I do not believe that we lay down and play dead either. If we do not stand for something we will fall for anything. The spirit notice small s of their ministry is certainly not the same Spirit of Christ.
