The bargains don't get much better than the Friends of the Brookfield Public Library's annual book sale, where the public can snatch up great reads and films for 50 cents to $2.

Some larger "coffee table" books will run a little more expensive but for the most part, the slew of children's and adults hardcover and paperback books, VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs and audio books cost a couple quarters to a couple bucks.

Brookfield Patch teamed up with the library on its bookmarks and Patch editors will be on hand this weekend to help with the sale.

If you go Saturday morning, you also could stroll around the Brookfield Farmers' Market going on at the same time.

The sale is being held Friday through Sunday on two successive weekends — Aug. 10 to 12 and Aug. 17 to 19 — in the city's Senior Center, on the east end of City Hall at 2000 N. Calhoun Rd.

Sale hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the book sale help fund library programming and facilities. The Friends of the Brookfield Public Library has donated more than $80,000 to the Brookfield library, most recently helping add new furniture and new paint in the lobby atrium, periodicals and children's areas.

"The money goes towards adult and children program sponsorship and the purchase of 'extra' items not covered by the library operating budget," the newsletter says of the 7th annual book sale. "Each book your purchase makes a difference!"
