Brookfield Girl, 16, Signs Recall Petition; Mom Gets It Crossed Out
Recall Walker petitioners cross out a 16-year-old Brookfield girl's signature after her mother brings her back to admit she lied about being 18 and able to vote.
A 16-year-old Brookfield girl says she lied to Recall Walker petitioners, saying she was 18 and legally able to vote so she could sign her name to help recall Gov. Scott Walker, according to police reports.
But when the girl's mother found out, her mother drove the girl back to the petitioners — gathering signatures Saturday afternoon along busy Blue Mound Road at Main Street — to get her name crossed off, reports say.
The mother could not be reached at home for comment Monday. The Brookfield Central High School student "liked" a Wisconsins Democratic Senators — The Fab 14 Facebook page but otherwise showed no sign of political activism. According to Brookfield police reports:
Police got a call about 4:20 p.m. Saturday from an anonymous caller who heard a woman telling recall petitioners that they had had her 16-year-old daughter sign a petition. The petitioners said they would cross the girl's name off.
When police talked to the girl, she said she had lied and told petitioners she was 18 and could legally sign.
Police have not received other complaints about underage petition signers, Police Capt. Jim Adlam said. But he noted there have been media reports about people signing multiple times, including one man who estimated he signed 80 times. Recall opponents have raised concerns that the state Government Accountability Board will not automatically strike signatures if people call themselves Mickey Mouse.
Both petition gatherers and signers, Adlam said, "have a duty and an obligation to ensure that everything is accurate. You shouldn’t be fudging it or knowingly allowing people to be signing it twice or uttering false information."
A website called Verify the Recall says it will work to check the accuracy of all signatures and ferret out any fraud.

Please go to verifytherecall.com & add your name to the NO Sign Registration page. The left is pulling out all the stops now that the low hanging fruit signatures have been plucked. Once the ground game begins, and thier support collapses, they will lie, cheat & steal to get to 700k. Don't let that happen.
Agree with Gov. Walker or not, the right & proper thing to do is to wait until the next election. Not act the fool and have all these needless recalls.
Thanks Gov. Walker - it's working, and we're behind you.

@Jeff Klass -- so did mine, a whole hundred dollars, even though my property is worth three quarters of what it was. I'll have to dig out my old bills to see where it went down -- which levies.
Your job is safe? Aren't you self-employed?

down is down. Beats the hell out of up any day. 18 years as a property owner in west Allis. This is the first time my taxes ever went down. I still have cops, fire & trash. Looks fine to me. You bet I'm self employed. That means it's harder, certainly not easier.

Having the police involved was the proper thing to do. Now the incident is legally documented if any future questions arise.

Thank goodness all these names and address's will be made public and 1,000's will be going over them and people can see if their name (or their kids, dead relatives, neighbors or friends) appear magically.

@Cynthia
I --and other volunteers think that individuals verifying that their names have not been added is a good idea. We--Democrats want this to be a clean process and I know I and others have done our best to make sure that no one signs more than once. I do hope that this process of verifying names is also clean in the sense that once the names become public the signers are not harassed by anyone. I have had the chance to talk to many kind sincere people who have signed. They volunteer their reasons for their signing without any of asking. These are folks were are worried about their communities.

@morninmist -
"These are folks were (sic) are worried about their communities."
And where exactly were these fine people when Doyle was cutting state funding to education by more than Walker has done, raiding segregated funds, running up debts with neighboring states by refusing to pay our share of valid reciprocity agreements, accepting billions in federal stimulus funds (borrowed money) that will have to be paid back with interest to foreign competitors by our children, etc.?
All of your claims of 'righteousness' about the recall efforts are complete crappola and you know it! So please cut out all of this false feel good crap, as quite frankly, it makes me want to puke!

You can go ahead and puke away. The other option is to ignore my posts.
Have a good day and try not to dehydrate yourself if you puke too much. Drink plenty of fluids if you have to.
cheers

So, in addition to recalling Governor Walker, will the unions/Dems/socialists also be RECALLING the state's balanced budget, Wisconsin's millions in debt, the lowered property taxes to taxpayers, the savings to the school districts and the American dream of our children and grandchildren? How ironic (and glaringly shameful) that during the Christmas season (which is supposed to be a joyful time of giving), we the taxpayers are subjected to these petition hucksters everywhere we go. The juxtaposition of the Salvation Army bell ringers collecting money for the TRULY needy on one side of a store's entrance while the petition hucksters (who represent the overpaid and overcompensated public employees) with their hands out on the other side. They are the grinches who stole Christmas. Disgusting.

Then give a little during this "joyful time of giving"? The volunteers would like a warm cup of coffee or cocoa. Tis the season to give.
Have a nice day.

A Brookfield mother with integrity! Thank you "Brookfield Mom". No my message to you people trying to recall our governor. Recalls are supposed to be for gross misconduct and criminal behavior, (look to Illinois for a reference) not because you didn't get your way. You recallers are similar to a spoiled child who has always gotten everything they ever wanted no matter the cost to the taxpayers under Doyle, but now that the purse string are tightened a little bit to try and help save our state from financial ruin, you throw a temper tantrum. You are not the majority by any means. So get that fantasy out of your head right now! If all of your bogus signatures are able to force a recall election, me and the rest of the "Silent Majority" will smack you down again just like we did in the original gubernatorial election.
Let the man continue to implement his campaign promises, Walker is doing exactly what he said he would do during his gubernatorial campaign. Maybe you should have paid better attention way back then. I believe it was your saviour of "Hope and change" that coined the phrase "Elections have consequences, get over it!" so follow your prophets advice and get over it. You voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you are not a racist, now it is your duty to vote against Obama in 2012 to prove you are not an idiot!

@Harold
One of the chief complaints of us recallers is that it was grossly unfair to have one group of workers hit--the state and municipal workers--the nurses, the EMT"S, the county snow plowers, the teachers, etc etc. Walker and his Republicans were wrong to do this and to not spread the financial burden to all.
