Brookfield Woman Accused of Stealing Friend's Credit Card

Woman faces five felony charges for allegedly taking a friend's card at a party in 2009 and charging items at various stores.

A Brookfield woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole her friend’s credit card in 2009 and used it to buy items for herself.

Elise M. Somers, 22, was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Friday with five counts of identity theft. If convicted, she faces up to 30 years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint:

On May 14, 2009, a woman reported her credit card had been stolen and used to purchase roughly $565 worth of goods at stores in Brookfield. The victim suspected Somers took the card while they were at a friend’s house and she dropped the card.

Investigators looked into the transactions and found Somers had indeed bought the items. She also admitted to the purchases, saying she was a heroin addict.

Somers was free on a $2,000 signature bond while awaiting trial.
