Cougar Sighting in Brookfield Cannot Be Confirmed
DNR officials said the description given by the witness did not match the description they had on cougars.
Another village residents says they recently spotted a cougar in Winnetka, so police are on the lookout for the cat once again.

Department of Natural Resources officials have said that a sighting of a cougar in Brookfield is unlikely, reported Brookfield Now.
A man reported on January 23 he had spotted a cougar at West Capitol Drive and North Calhoun Road. He had contacted the DNR about it, he said, and had been advised that the local police should also be notified.
The DNR said the sighting cannot be confirmed because it was difficult to investigate due to the snowfall and there are no plans to look for the alleged cougar, reported Brookfield Now.
Additionally, the description given the by man did not match up information the state had on cougars.

They can usually be sighted at Cooper's Hawk, both in the bar area and dining room.

Ummm . . . is a cougar that much more dangerous than a pack of coyotes, which we know we have in the area? The question to ask is how much this affects public safety.
We should already be protecting our small pets, so this would only be an issue for a solitary hiker who might meet up with the alleged cougar.
I wouldn't dismiss the sighting out of hand. But if we do have a cougar in the area, it will be seen again.

absolutely! I had one in my backyard a few years ago on Father's Day. I was out early Sunday morning with my two beagles having a cup of coffee. The birds went wild and the beagles stopped moving. Silence. The cougar just stood there only 20 feet away. The beagles didn't bark or chase like they normally would. I quietly walked them in the house and closed the sliding glass door. I called the DNR and they dismissed it, like they do and asked me if I could have mistaken it for a racoon or something else. Oh Boy...No. They advised to call the police department if I see it again. A few months later, I believe one was spotted on Greenfield and later in Waukesha. I know what I saw. I believe they should investigate. Public safety issue. It was a intimidating sitting in your back yard having my morning coffee and a cougar is strolling through your yard. Glad he wasn't hungry.

took some pictures of some big cat like snow prints 2 years ago on the side of my house. Just never thougt it could be cougar tracks now im starting to think they were. Maybe i should send them to the DNR
