Elmbrook Humane Society Praised as No-Kill Shelter
A no-kill advocacy website says Brookfield is the first Wisconsin no-kill community, thanks to the efforts of the Elmbrook Humane Society.
A no-kill advocacy website is praising Brookfield as the first "no-kill" animal community in Wisconsin and 28th in the country, thanks to the rescue and adoption efforts of Elmbrook Humane Society.
Citing EBHS's 2011 statistics, the website said the Brookfield animal shelter "euthanized only 6 percent of the dogs it took in, and only 7 percent of the cats! It has excellent adoption rates, adopting out 75 percent of its dogs and 90 percent of its cats. Its overall live release rate was 93 percent."
The website also gave the shelter props for other efforts to educate the community on animal wildlife issues, including how to co-exist with coyotes.

Executive Director Karen Sparapani gave details of the Feb. 18 Hollywood-themed Wine and Whiskers winter fundraiser at during a appearance this morning on "The Morning Blend" on Today's TMJ4. Sparapani also brought Romeo, a stray dog hit by a car who needs major surgery and financial assistance.
