Student representatives at Brookfield East and Brookfield Central high schools continue to push for incentives for seniors to leave campus during the day or to have a late start or early release.

The students will bring forward a proposal to the Elmbrook School Board on March 26 for an incentive plan that would require seniors to be in good standing throughout their high school years with no unexcused absences and a limited number of tardy violations.

The students’ proposal also would require seniors to maintain passing grades in order to keep the incentives.

“There would be a little bit of a consequence,” said Jessica Schmeling, a student representative at Brookfield Central during Tuesday's Elmbrook School Board meeting. “You would have to keep your grades up for the next term.”

If the incentives had been available for the Class of 2013, 128 students would qualify for late start/early release if the requirements were for a 3.0 grade point average and 93 students would qualify at a 2.5 grade point average.
