Several Elmbrook schools, including Brookfield and Burleigh elementaries, paid tribute to the sacrifices soldiers and their families make.

Chris Okonek, a special education teacher at Brookfield Elementary, is enjoying time with her son, Army Capt. Jonathan Okonek, 26, who is back home from Afghanistan on an RR leave until Nov. 21.

Students at Brookfield and Burleigh elementary schools honored veterans Friday with songs, flags and parades.

Brookfield Elementary students raised more than $700 for future Badger Honor Flight Network trips to bring WWII veterans to the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

At Burleigh Elementary, students decorated the gym with more than 750 stars bearing the names of veterans in their family and community.
