Prosser Has Net Gain With 10% of Waukesha County's Votes Recounted
The Waukesha County Board of Canvassers has counted about 11,000 votes after 4 1/2 days. Deadline to complete the county's 125,000-vote recount is May 9.
With one week before the recount deadline, Waukesha County has nearly 10% of its votes recounted, resulting in a net change of 12 additional votes for incumbent state Supreme Court Justice David Prosser.
The Waukesha County Board of Canvassers had counted about 11,000 of the county's 125,070 original votes cast, as of mid-day Monday.
About 48% of all votes statewide had been recounted as of 12:50 p.m. Monday, or 718,230 votes of the approximately 1.5 million cast, according to the state Government Accountability Board. That did not include votes from 27 reporting units that were being reviewed by state elections officials.
May 9 is the deadline for completing the recount, which was requested by challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg after she lost by a margin of 7,316 votes or less than one-half of one percent in a race that became a referendum on Gov. Scott Walker's near elimination of public employee collective bargaining rights.
In Waukesha County, tabulators were reviewing Town of Genesee ballots Monday morning and planned next to recount votes from the City of Oconomowoc, said Ellen Nowak, chief of staff for Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.
Waukesha County elections officials worked Wednesday through Saturday and as of Saturday evening, Prosser had a net gain of 12 votes compared to the original votes certified from those communities, Nowak said.
Counted so far are all or parts of the towns of Brookfield, Delafield, Eagle and Genesee, villages of Chenequa and Nashotah and City of Delafield.
There was a dispute during the Town of Delafield recount when identification for one of three ballot bags was not marked on an inspection sheet. After an objection by representatives of Kloppenburg's campaign, former Waukesha County Circuit Judge Robert Mawdsley and the Board of Canvassers decided to open and recount all three bags of ballots.

All anyone is asking for is a fair count.

Didn't the canvas do that? Count every ballot. When it was all said and done the numbers matched. Now the margin is getting even wider. LMFAO!!!!

I'll believe that when I see Kloppenburg concede, Dennis.

As the recounts contuine your seeing mistakes that were made. No, it won't change the results, but at least everyones vote is counted, and that's what you want as a citizen isn't it ?

So Dennis do you support a complete and total makeover of the states voting system? Voter ID, no more same day registration, an increase from 10 days to 45 days residency?

Dennis, as a Citizen I don't want to see my tax money wasted on a recount like this!

It's not wasted, if there was suspicion of unfair play or practice. The recount will help eleviate doubt, and hopefully sharpen the polling process.

...and it only serves to make Ms. Kloppenberg look like a fool for declaring victory so soon.

Jake, if anything was done, the odds are it was done in Madison or Milwaukee where the liberal battle cry of by any means lives on. There where no dicrepecies in Waukesha in vote totals. The Brookfield #s where the same that the Patch reported after the dutz filled in the total. There is no "doudt" or "unfair play" unless you are some left wing nut job consperist. Get over it and become a person of self reliance and personal responsibility instead of gov reliance and you will be a much happier person.

Complete waste of our time and money when even the left says the results will be the same. If the margin of victory is less will that make them feel better?!

the recount is a delay tactic. Everyone one both sides will concede this point. But what the heck, it's the tax payers that suffer so who cares right?

You know, it's kind of funny. All of the past elections with cigarettes for votes and so on, you never saw the liberals ask for recounts or fairness then. Because they won.
