Siblings of Current Students Might Qualify for Elmbrook Open Enrollment
The board will consider opening up Elmbrook seats for siblings of current nonresident students in May.
Even though the Elmbrook School Board did not approve any new open enrollment seats for 2013-14, the board might choose to open some seats for siblings of current nonresident students.
Each year, the district has an opportunity to provide additional seats in the open enrollment program for siblings on the waiting list.
Last year, 48 nonresident students with siblings already attending the district schools remained on the waiting list. The district anticipates the number to be higher this year.
According to a memo from staff, the parents of these students are interested in keeping their children together in Elmbrook.
The board may choose to guarantee seats for these siblings for 2013-14 at the May 14 board meeting.
In guaranteeing seats, the board would need to admit all siblings that remain on the waiting list. If the seats are opened up, students might not get assigned to their preferred school.
The open enrollment application period began in February and will end on April 30.
