Trader Joe's Plans October Opening in Brookfield
Developers say three other retailers will be announced soon for new shopping center on Bluemound Road.

Construction workers are bustling at the Trader Joe's site in Brookfield — dressing the parking lot with trees and installing the signature interior that will make the current building shell into a grocery destination.
Though developers haven't set an opening date, Ryan Cos. Vice President of Development Tony Barranco said Monday they plan to open sometime in October.
Trader Joe's will accompany Target, PNC Bank, and other unannounced retailers in Underwood Crossing, a new 170,000-square-foot shopping center on West Bluemound Road at North 128th Street.
"We’re excited to have (Trader Joe's) join Underwood Crossing, and they’re going to be a dynamite addition to the Target there," Barranco said.

The Brookfield site will be the second Trader Joe's location in the Milwaukee area, and third in the state. The grocery chain's expansion is happening nationwide, with Trader Joe's planning to open more than 30 new stores this year, according to Supermarket News.
"Being the second store in the Milwaukee area, we’re really happy it validates the quality of site and the City of Brookfield, to have that type of retailer," Barranco said.
Construction started on the Trader Joe's building in May. Target opened in July, PNC Bank is under construction, and an empty lot awaits other retailers.
Developers are waiting for city approval on their multi-tenant retail building, but Barranco said they are close to announcing who will occupy those spots.

Comparing this development with The Corners of Brookfield raises more questions. How can Underwood Crossing move ahead and announce committed retailers to its project in a short period of time, while The Corners/Marcus Corp has not been able to announce committed retailers--other than Von Maur--for more than a year? This is just one more red flag to consider when deciding whether to publicly finance Marcus Corp's development and/or its land grab of the Town of Waukesha via the Town of Brookfield's proposed incorporation effort. The Town of Brookfield claims its incorporation move is to protect its borders from unwelcomed land grabs. But it is proposing to do that to the Town of Waukesha residents. As Townspeople, we should stand together to preserve our way of life. Go to the Town of Brookfield board meeting tonite at 7 p.m. and let them know we expect them to lead by example and "do unto others...."
