Week Ahead: Packer at Library, Casino Royale, New Elmbrook Superintendent

The week ahead includes Packer Hall of Fame kicker Chester Marcol at the library, the Elmbrook Education Foundation's annual social and the slated hiring of a new Elmbrook superintendent.

News

Bluemound Road construction plans: View the state's plans to resurface and make median and other safety changes in 2012 on Bluemound Road from Moorland Road west to Barker Road / I-94. The public is invited to view the plans, speak to state officials and voice their opinions from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the City of Brookfield Public Safety Building, 2100 N. Calhoun Rd.

New Elmbrook Schools superintendent: The School Board is slated to vote on a contract to hire Mark Hansen as the district's next superintendent. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the board room, 13780 Hope St. Also on the agenda: discussions about high school block scheduling, enrolling siblings of open enrollment students and the district's capital improvement budget plans.

Sports

Hockey team going to state: The Brookfield Stars — co-op team of Brookfield Central and East players — are headed to the state tournament for the first time since 1997. They play Eau Claire Memorial in a state quarterfinal game at noon Thursday.

Events

Former Packer Chester Marcol at library: Packers Hall of Fame kicker Chester Marcol will sign copies of his recent autobiography "Alive and Kicking" that will be available for purchase at 7 p.m. Monday in the Brookfield Public Library's community room, 1900 N. Calhoun Rd.

Celebrate Wisconsin food and books: Join the library for a "quintessential Wisconsin meal" and talk about books set in Wisconsin. Registration is required for the Read It and Eat: Celebrate Wisconsin! program from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Rd.

Tonawanda presents "The Hundred Year Snooze": The school will perform a musical at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, 19805 W. Capitol Dr. Tickets are $5 and available online.

Learn how to download library materials to e-Readers: The library will demonstrate how to tap library materials with your Nook or e-Readers. Registration is required for the session at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Miss America performs at Sharon Lynne: Laura Kaeppeler, the Wisconsinite named as Miss America, will appear at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Other Miss America contestants will appear, and tickets are available online.

Sensenbrenner speaks at Elmbrook Rotary Club: U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner will speak before the Elmbrook Rotary Club at its weekly meeting 7 a.m. Friday at the Venice Club, 1905 N. Calhoun Rd. 

Casino Royale fundraiser social for EEF: The Elmbrook Education Foundation will host Casino Royale, its fourth annual winter social, at 7 p.m. at Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. There are hors d'oeuvres and small plate buffets, casino games, a raffle, wine pull, restaurant tree, jewelry dig sponsored by Faye's, complimentary pictures by Babboni Photography and more.
