UPDATE: Winter Storm Saturn Loses Its Bite

A third storm in as many weeks is proving to be difficult to forecast, and has been downgraded from a Winter Storm Warning to a Winter Weather Advisory in some parts; find out if your community will have less to shovel

This has been updated to reflect the downgrade of forecast in certain counties as of March 4, 3 p.m.

According to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News, the National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of southeastern Wisconsin from 6 a.m. Tuesday through midnight Tuesday. Milwaukee, Waukesha, and portions of Dodge County have been taken off of the Winter Storm Warning issued earlier, and Ozaukee County has been dropped altogether.

However, Racine, Kenosha, Jefferson and Dodge County residents remain under the warning, with 4-8 inches forecast.

If this sounds familiar, this is the third storm in as many weeks to barrel through the area during a winter that started off relatively warm and rainy. For those keeping track, this one is called is Winter Storm Saturn.

Earlier reports predicted as much as 6-9 inches of snow over much of the southern third of the state, however the storm's track has moved further south, meaning the inch totals for those counties under the advisory have also taken a dip to 3-5 inches. Very light snow will to fall Monday night, with light to moderate snow developing by Tuesday morning, according to Weather Watch 12.

Saturn was also expected to feature lake-enhanced snow, bringing a higher potential for heavy snow totals along Lake Michigan, but as the storm has changed track, those concerns have also lessened..

Brisk northeast winds will develop by Tuesday afternoon however, and will also cause blowing and drifting snow into Tuesday night.

Ooooohhhh, First it was killer storm "Q" and now it is killer storm "Saturn". Apparently the liberals are trying to scare everyone into thinking the world is coming to an end. I can't wait until this summer when it gets a little warm to see what they will start calling those.

How does frozen water make a winter storm "liberal"?

So after all this snow are we still in a drought?

Actually, this winter has been called a drought buster. Between the 6 inches of rain and the 30+ inches of snow, we'll be swatting mosquitos in no time!

@Denise - that's good news about the drought! I'm also hoping that with our more normal winter, we'll not have such a horrendously hot summer.

"Current predictions have the storm dumping totals of 6-0 inches over much of the southern third of the state, beginning Monday night."

**********************

I'm going to assume that's supposed to be 6-10 inches.

Better late than never. Last year, right around this time, my wife's company was beginning to send out crews to start spring cleanups due to the unusually moderate, spring-like weather.

Joe, it's "climate change" now (for obvious reasons). Time to get up to speed.

A reader over on the Mount Pleasant Patch Facebook page coined a new term: Snowquestration!

I think it's got a snappy ring to it!

Good thing mother nature is not a believer in socialism.
We all would get the same amount of snowfall.
There would be no incentive to clean it up, and those who did work hard shoveling the snow and injured their back would have to wait 14 months for an MRI to confirm a herniated disc.

That's it! No more comment reading on Patch. I'm sick of the right turning everything into a political event, even a benign snowstorm. Maybe it is time for the Patch to ban political comments!

@Greg OC, everything is Obama, he wants it that way. EVERYTHING is Obama. The sooner you realize that the better off you will be. The weather, the market, health care, food, race relations, pesticides ect its ALL Obama. Every story on Patch has a direct connection to Obama. I will bring Obama into every post I submit. Obama is in your bedroom, Doctor’s office and workplace, EVERYTHING is Obama.

I find it funny we can fly a space probe through Saturn's rings, and can't predict the snowfall amount accurately 1 day before the storm hits.
