Wisconsin Election Results 2012

Updates on the 2012 federal and state elections will be posted here throughout the day on Tuesday. You can also connect with us on Twitter at #PatchElections and in our live blog.

Heading into Tuesday's presidential election, Democratic insiders were feeling a bit more confident about their party's chances than their Republican counterparts, according to the results of Patch's final "Blue Wisconsin" and "Red Wisconsin" surveys.

The surveys of party activists, elected officials and bloggers and other "influencers" showed 95 percent of the Democrats believe that President Barack Obama will carry Wisconsin and 92 percent say he will win the national popular vote.

Among Republicans insiders, 70 percent said GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney will win Wisconsin, and 88 percent said he will take the national vote.

Why doesn't Patch include the third party tallies? It seems like a conspiracy to me.

Michael - You do seem to hold on to those third party opinions even though they have no chance of winning.

THIS ID YOUR RIGHT AND YOU HAVE EVERY REASON TO CONTINUE. I don't want the previous statement to be considered snarky.

I don't believe it's a conspiracy, Michael. I believe it is a descision to cover the candidates who truly have the chance of winning.

I do agree with your point, though. I think this election will be so close the third party votes will have an impact - much like the Nader vote of 2004. History may prove me wrong & I'll then eat my words, but so far I am pretty sure of it.

@Free Thought Troy I know it is not a conspiracy- I am trying to shame Patch into giving equal billing to the other candidates. They absolutely need exposure.

As for the election: I determined about 2 weeks ago that Obama will win the electoral college vote. I have no crystal ball, but I think Romney will have to win too many battleground states.

FreeThought Toy: Yes we should have less choice in elections because the only the all mighty candidates of the two party duopoly are valid. Maybe we should pass a law to make it illegal for anyone except members of those two parties to run. After all nobody else has a chance.

Sarcasm aside, if you really believe that third party candidates do not have a chance then you have to admit that we do not really have democracy in this country. Then ask yourself why you continue to support a party that stacks the deck against choice, especially at the Presidential level? When the media buys into that argument it becomes self fulfilling.

The myth that the results of the 2000 or 2004 elections were the fault of Nader is perpetuated to continue to own your vote.

Sadly...Money talks and morals walk. I'm feeling really good about not voting for neither Obama or Romney.

I never vote for the 'unopposed'. I'm trying to defray the cost of the recent statewide recall election by extending the life of the little marker pen.

@jay: you may win the prize for best off-the-cuff
(although: who knows; you may have had to work on that, but my bet is it just flowed through your fingers to the keyboard)
To everyone else:
Please don't forget to vote. You have plenty of time, if you haven't gotten to your poling place yet.
Yes, you know who I prefer: for me it's the morals and ethics.
Ayn Rand to me, a disciple of Augustine, Aristotle, Plato, and JS Eriugena: there is not choice other than Obama.
Go vote.

Some of the best news for Wisconsin and especially nationally is the addition of more women to the Senate! Finally, more common sense will prevail. While we think Barack Obama is one of the best things to happen for our country, maybe our next president will be a woman--Hillary Clinton? Elizabeth Warren? It would be nice to see more of the women's perspective finally to help lead our country. Look harder at what they do each day in their own families, in business, in making "connections" with friends and community members. We're getting closer now as they gain seats in government! Good news!!!
