Woman Faces Felony After Driving Drunk Through Falls With a Bottle of Vodka
Brookfield woman told the officer she was on her way home from her daughter's home in Whitewater where she drank "two vodka's" before driving. It's her fourth OWI in within five years.
A 47-year-old Brookfield woman is facing felony charges after she was caught driving drunk through Menomonee Falls.
Theresa M. Poulos was charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court Tuesday with one count of fourth offense operating while intoxicated within five years and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of her license. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in prison and $12,500 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint:
At 7:38 p.m. Monday, a Menomonee Falls police officer spotted Poulos speeding near Lisbon Road and One Mile Road and pulled her over. Poulos had glassy eyes and stammered as she spoke, and the officer noticed her reaching under the seat to try and grab a bottle of Crystal Palace vodka.
Poulos told the officer she had drank “two vodka’s” at her daughter’s house in Whitewater and was driving home. When the officer asked for her license, Poulos said it was underneath the seat and went to grab for it, but had great difficulty doing so.
Poulos failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.20 at the time of the incident, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.
She was previously convicted of OWI in 2006, 2007 and 2010. Poulos is currently being held in county jail on $1,500 bond.
