From 'Laughter' to Tears: Brookfield East Forensics Captivates Audience

Preparing to travel soon to two national tournaments, East Forensics team members performed their competition pieces Friday night at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts.

For the seniors it was their chance to shine at home — performing the speeches and acts they will use to compete in two upcoming national tournaments. The award-winning Brookfield East Forensics team put on a 2 1/2-hour show at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts Friday night. Acts ranged from Archit Baskaran's four-minute informative about the benefits of "Laughter," to Kyle Wessel's moving performance of Michael J. Fox's "Lucky Man," to senior Jennifer Vosters' dramatic interpretation of Sunny Jacobs, a woman falsely convicted and left on death row in "The Exonerated." Team members will travel to compete in the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Qualifiers in Baltimore, MD, from May 25 to 28. Some also will …

'Our Town' Plays at Brookfield Central Through Saturday

Upload your photos from 'Our Town' here   Brookfield Central High will present its spring play 'Our Town' through Saturday at the school's 115-seat Black Box Theater. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. April 25, 26, 27 and 28 at the school, 16900 W. Gebhardt Rd., Brookfield. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students. Tickets can be purchased during lunch hours at BCHS Black Box Office or ordered through cast/crew members. If the shows don't sell out, tickets will be sold at the door. The theater students worked with the Elmbrook Historical Society on setting the stage for 'Our Town,' a three-act play by Thornton Wilder that includes settings from 1901 to 1913. UW Chamber Orchestra Performs Free Concert Thursday

The UW Chamber Orchestra will perform a free concert Thursday at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the center, 19805 W. The concert is generously sponsored by JoAnne and Donald Krause of Brookfield and is the fifth outreach concert by UW-Madison School of Music ensembles the couple has supported at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center since 2007. Project Runway: 'Models' Display Creations at Yarn Fashion Show

From skirts and jackets to shawls and scarves, area residents showed off their creations at River Boutique & Yarn's annual Spring Fashion Show in the Galleria West shopping center.

Area residents displayed their hard-earned fashion creations April 17 at River Boutique & Yarn's annual Spring Fashion Show. From scarves and shawls to skirts and jackets, knitters joined store owner Bes Folkman in walking the 'runway' or kicking back with beverages while learning new techniques and designs. PHOTOS: Brookfield Academy Performing Seussical This Weekend

Students grades 5-12 will bring the whimsical play to the Sharon Lynn Performing Arts Center.

With a range of talent from grades 5 through 12, two teachers in the cast, and a crew of parent volunteers, Brookfield Academy Theater Director Mark Salentine will take his place backstage this weekend as the group performs their hard-rehearsed Seussical. A musical based on several Dr. Seuss stories, the play brings together unrelated characters like the Cat in the Hat, and Horton (who hears the who), on a set that mimics the whimsical and playful worlds Seuss has created. A touring team of Chinese acrobats performed at Burleigh Elementary Wednesday.

Juggling hats, balancing tea pots and building human pyramids, three Chinese acrobats incited squeals and claps from Burleigh Elementary School students Wednesday afternoon in an all-school assembly. The presentation was meant to entertain and educate students about Chinese culture and customs.

East Senior Nora Collins Named WAMI Rising Star

Teen tops top honor for new artist at Wisconsin Area Music Industry awards ceremony in Appleton.

Brookfield East senior Nora Collins was named as the 2012 Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) Rising Star at a ceremony Sunday at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton.  "Thank you so much; this is such an honor," Collins said at the ceremony, as she started to choke up. "I'm gonna cry. I really appreciate this. Thank you WAMI, and of course my parents. I couldn't do this without you." Collins has two CDs out on iTunes, called "Red Chuck Taylors," and "Run Away With Me." She also has music videos posted on her website. Collins was a nominee for the Rising Star award last year, and since then has won other awards, including the state title in the Texaco Country Showdown, a country music talent search. A myriad of media, including a large mural created by 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, is displayed at Brookfield Academy's annual Art Exhibit.

From murals to paintings and wood carvings, the artwork of Brookfield Academy students was featured Friday at the Academy's annual Art Exhibit. Students trained as docents gave tours of the art, including a gallery highlighting Vincent Van Gogh, who was was selected as the Academy’s Artist of the Year.
