On Thursday, December 6th, SJV students participated in the National Geography Bee school competition held at St. John Vianney. Each classroom from fourth through eighth grade entered one winner and one alternate.
Contestants needed to know more than just where places are located on map. They had to understand global concepts such as international trade and foreign culture in order to answer the questions which included inquiries such as, “to see ships loading and unloading goods in Riga, a major port on the Baltic, you would travel to which European country?”
The student with the most geography know-how was seventh grader Chris R. Sixth grader Kiana R. earned second place with her geography acumen and seventh grader Zach M. rounded out the top three spots with a third place finish.
Chris R. will represent St. John Vianney in the state geography bee on April 5th, 2013 with a chance to compete with geography buffs from across the country at the National Geography Bee to be held May 20-22, 2013.
