I-94 Lane Closures Will Last Until June

Motorists should prepare for single-lane closures to last until late June.

Motorists will face I-94 road closures for the next four months as the interstate is repaved in Waukesha and Milwaukee counties.Β

Westbound I-94 will be narrowed from three lanes to two in the stretches from 32nd to 70th streets, and 124th Street to Highway 16 until the project is completed in late June, according to the state Department of Transportation's website on the project, repave94.org. Motorists can follow updates there, on Facebook and on Twitter via @WIRepave94.

Eastbound I-94 lanes in the same stretches will have single-lane closures starting in mid-March.

In Milwaukee County, the work will also close these I-94 ramps: the North 35th Street and Mitchell Boulevard entrance ramps, and the Hawley Road entrance and exit ramps.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative east-west routes such as Greenfield Avenue and Blue Mound Road, or ride the bus to reduce vehicle traffic. More than 100,000 vehicles travel that corridor daily, which will mean congestion for the next three months.

City of Brookfield officials say it has been about a decade since that part of the interstate has been resurfaced.
