Story of Mom Who Has Overcome Obstacles Wins Patch Contest

Allison Feix says her mother is tops because she has raised two children while caring for a quadriplegic husband who is also fighting leukemia.

From moms that rock the volunteer scene to moms who always know the right thing to say, dozens of entries into Patch's "Why My Mom is Best" contest warmed our hearts and made us smile.

But amid all the spectacular stories was a daughter's touching tale about her mother's battle with cancer while helping a quadriplegic husband with leukemia that stole our hearts.

"My mom, Lynn, deserves an escape," Allison Feix wrote about her mother, Lynn Molter. "She's raised two kids and works as a medical technologist, while being the care taker for my father, who has leukemia and has been a quadriplegic for the past twenty seven years. She is a recent breast cancer survivor, who puts the needs of her loved ones before her own. Some time away would be well deserved!"

Molter lives in Cedar Grove and her daughter, Feix, said while she currently lives in Durham, NC, she will soon be moving to Whitefish Bay with her husband and two children.

Molter will take home:

There were also three top runners-up with some amazing stories about selfless moms.

Sloan Armstrong wrote about the many animals and familes his mom has lent a hand to, and how he can always hit her up for a "shot of happy."

"Throughout my life, she's always been there for me to make things feel better and even now that I'm in college I know I can call and get that shot of happy whenever I need it," he wrote.

Katie Streater said her mom has taught herself and three sisters the "greatest lesson in life: to be kind." At age 48, Streater's mom returned to college to earn a second degree.

"She has led by example, showing it's never to late to achieve your greatest dreams. She is so inspiring. I love you, mom!" Streater wrote.

And finally, Isaiah Pitchford shared a slice of his life with a mom whos not just his, but a mom to his whole football team.

"I kid you not, I firmly believe that more of my friends at school and through sports etc are friends on facebook with her than they are with me. Not a day at school goes by where I don't hear 'I LOVE YOUR MOM!' or 'MAMA PITCH IS THE BEST!' or even, 'I WISH YOUR MOM WAS MY MOM!' at least a dozen times," Pitchford wrote.

Each of the top three runners up will receive a Patch prize package, valued at $25.

A big "thanks" to the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and its members for helping organize the prize package, as well as to Brookfield Suites Hotel.
