Tearing Down Barn an 'Absolute Shame,' Eble Family Member Says

News that the Eble Park barn is likely to be razed as Brookfield officials has left family members saddened.

"As the unofficial family historian, we were quite distressed to hear about the possibility of the barn being razed," Elaine Moss, an Eble descendant said.

Officials believe the cost of maintaining and updating the Eble Park barn is too much, and are looking to raze the building.

The attached pages are from an original article from the Milwaukee Journal in December 1936.

More details from Moss' e-mail to Patch:

"I spoke with my mother, Dorothy Becker (daughter of Della Eble), this morning and she was 8 when the barn raising happened. She remembers all of the neighbors helping and all of the Uncles and spouses of the Aunts coming to help.

"That barn is so solid. It would be an absolute shame were it to be torn down.
I also have a lot of photos of Uncle Roy and his herd of Holsteins.

"My mom remembers making dinners for everyone the two days of the barn raising. Pitcher after pitcher of lemonade, water, coffee. Bowls and bowls of creamed onions, meats, bread, etc.  It must have been something wonderful."
