Wagfest Will Be a Paradise for Pets

Thousands of people — and just as many animals — expected at fundraiser for Elmbrook Humane Society.

Tails will be wagging at Brookfield’s from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday as the hosts its annual Wagfest.

The animal celebration, now in its fifth year, features food, music, shopping and more.

“Wagfest began as ‘Wagwalk’ 26 years ago and gets bigger every year,” said Rachel Coolbroth, community outreach director with the society. “Last year we had 2,500 people and their dogs, cats – even bunnies. Pets must be on a leash and are welcomed throughout the area. Pickup bags will be provided for all pet owners.”

There is no admission fee, and food and drink coupons may be purchased at the park, located at 19900 River Road, next to the

The humane society is also offering a pre-fest registration form on its website. An individual package for $25 includes $10 worth of food coupons and an official Wagfest T-shirt (selling at the park for $20). The family package for $50 includes $20 worth of food coupons and two T-shirts.

Matthew Phillips, a volunteer for the group, attended last year’s Wagfest with his Doberman pinscher, Scout.

“She was so excited – she loved it,” Phillips said. “There was a playground area where she could run around with other dogs and she burned off a lot of energy. Then when we wanted to walk around and see everything, she was a lot calmer.”

All proceeds from Wagfest will benefit the animals at the Elmbrook Humane Society, which is the only adoption guarantee shelter in Waukesha County.
