What's Your Favorite Thing About Brookfield?

Local Editor Lyssa Beyer is new to the scene and looking for ways to cover Brookfield best.

Brookfield is a happening place.

A family of five couldn't name on their fingers and toes the many businesses to visit, places to eat, experiences to be had.

As the new local editor for the Brookfield Patch, I am excited to figure that all out — and I welcome tips and ideas from my readers along the way!

I am a native of Kimberly, just outside of Appleton in the Fox Cities — near to the the great Fox River Mall, and the expansive stores that surround it.

Brookfield is reminiscent of that bustling place I grew up in, but it's also new territory, and I am excited to learn.

A few things I've discovered that I like so far:

  • The Health Hut has an amazing selection of healthy foods, organic or unique items to replace unhealthy snacks (admittedly, I am a health nut — if you didn't figure that out.
  • I also enjoy the Brookfield Square Mall — though who doesn't — but moreso that the entire building has WiFi.
  • I've met with city Mayor Steve Ponto and Fire Chief Charlie Myers — both great leaders of the city and nice people to spend time with.
  • The schools. The superintendent is a positive person and very open with information. The kids are inspiring and fun. A few of the events I've attended so far? A Ribbon Race to raise money for cancer and a sliming of teachers after the kids raised their goal of $5,000.
So, what am I missing? Are there topics or events that you'd like to see Brookfield Patch cover? Any other tips?

Tell me in the comments, or e-mail me at lyssa.beyer@patch.com.
