Trio of Artists Art Exhibition - Oct 7 to Nov 17

A Trio of Artists, an Art Exhibition October 7, 2011 – November 17, 2011
at Unitarian Universalist Church West in Brookfield

Three noteworthy local artists, Paul Madura, Colette Odya Smith and James Maki will be exhibiting their work in the art gallery at Unitarian Universalist West Church in Brookfield, from Friday, October 7 through Thursday, November 17. A reception where you can meet the artists will be held in the gallery after each service on Sunday, October 8. UUCW is located on the eastern edge of Brookfield at 13001 W. North Ave., only minutes west of the North Avenue exit on Highway 45.

Paul Madura began drawing in the 6th grade back in his native India. After being introduced to watercolors and oils in high school, Paul’s work evolved to encompass a variety of media as he explored the ultra-realistic Trompe l’oeil style. Paul’s subjects include everything but landscapes.

In the words of artist Colette Odya Smith, her “intimate landscapes...are filled with the stuff that once occupied the lower, nearly throwaway corners of grand history paintings.  The water and stones beneath the feet of heroes and saints have come to center stage…yet feel just as eloquent and just as evocative.”

Colette’s work is created with pastels and watercolors that allow her to use the same elements, dust and water, that she is drawn to paint.

Completing the trio is long-time art teacher, James Maki. Several years ago, James made the leap from teacher to artist and acquired a studio in Bay View where he explores the colors, textures and shapes of his wife’s old family farm in watercolors,  pen and ink. The collection he brings is titled, The Old Homestead and Into the Woods.

The UUCW Community Room Gallery champions local and non-local emerging and
established artists, and strives to build community through the visual arts. The gallery also provides a space for exhibiting artwork that grapples with issues of diversity, tolerance, and social justice, plus art that celebrates the planet and the interdependent web of all existence.
