High Intensity Japanese "Jumping Drummers" Perform Sunday

Japanese drummers and female dancers in full ethnic dress will perform a free show at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Civic Plaza.

The high-intensity drumming and dancing of Hane Daiko (meaning "jumping drum") will perform a free public show at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The show will be held at the Civic Plaza, 2000 N. Calhoun Road. 

Hane Daiko performed Friday at the 2011 Gathering on the Green festival in Mequon, as seen in the YouTube video attached to this story.

Along with the drumming sets, the Hanagasa Ondo Women’s Dance Group will perform their “Flower Straw Hat” folk dance in brightly colored Kimonos.

The city arranged the free event with Concordia University, where the groups' 40 members are staying while visiting and performing in Wisconsin.
