The Week Ahead: Government Takes the Week Off, School Sports Back on the Calendar

Brookfield Patch offers a glimpse of what's happening in local news and events this week.

Welcome to 2012 and ease into the New Year with some of these events. 

Government

and are closed today but will reopen for regular hours Tuesday, Jan. 3. Due to the holidays, the Brookfield City Common Council has also cancelled its regular first Tuesday meeting.

Brookfield Central/ Varsity Boys Swimming Relay, at Brookfield East. Diving begins at 4:30 p.m. and swimming at 6:30 p.m. Visiting schools include Marquette, Arrowhead, MF/Hamilton/Germantown, West Allis, Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine/Pewaukee, Waukesha South/Catholic Memorial, WaukeshaWest/Mukwonago and Pius XI.

Tuesday, Jan. 3

At Knit's End in the Rotary Room, 1-3 p.m. Join fellow knitters, both novices and experts at our knitting group. 

Family Fun Night - Kindermusik at the Brookfield Public Library, 7-7:30 p.m. Play, listen and move to the music. Enjoy this hands-on music adventure. 

Thursday, Jan. 5 

LaLache League of Brookfield monthly meeting at the city , 7 p.m.  Bring any questions you have regarding breastfeeding. Feel free to ask more questions during the meeting or during social time at the end of the meeting.

Talk About Books at the Brookfield Public Library Harnishfeger Room, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Can't decide on your favorite genre? Everything from the classics to current non-fiction is discussed. The only requirement is a love of books. 

Friday, Jan. 6 

BUG (Brookfield Users Group) in the Brookfield Public Library Community Room, 10-11 a.m.  BUG is a great place to come to ask questions and pick up tips about computers and the Internet. This is a drop-in computer users' group.  No registration is neccessary. 

Open Gym from 8:30 -10:00 p.m. every Friday night.  Join us for lots of fun!  Everyone is welcome.  The cost is only $8 ($2 more for pizza and soda.)  

Saturday, Jan. 7 

Bare Essentials Runner's Clinic at , $5. Take your shoes off and join Performance Running Outfitters for a less-is-more approach to your training and strengthening in our Bare Essentials runners’ class. Learn to become more efficient, stronger, and reduce your risk of injury, completed while barefoot, through a combination of basic strengthening techniques, stretching, and form drills. 

Wildcard Gymnasitcs Open Gym from 8:30 -10:00 p.m. every Saturday night, $8. Wildcard Gymnastics has Saturday Evening Open Gyms.  Come on in and flip around.  Try out our trampolines, balance beams, bars, spring floor and more!  Wildcard has an amazing 23,000 square foot facility where kids and adults can have a blast.  Everyone is welcome so bring the whole neighborhood!
