Will Caribou Coffee Close in Brookfield, Too?

Store employees offer information about the two chain coffee shops located in Brookfield.

If you enjoyed Caribou Coffee as an alternative to other chain coffee shops, you will be out of luck as of April 14 in Brookfield.

The two stores in Brookfield at 17335 W. Blue Mound Road, and 12455 W. Capitol Drive at the border of Wauwatosa, will be closing as of noon on Sunday, April 14, according to store employees.

One employee said that the Wauwatosa location along Highway 100 as well as one in Waukesha were remaining open, but would become Peet's Coffee and Tea. The chain was founded in 1966 in Berkeley, CA, and has mainly operated stores on the west coast.

The decision relates to a corporate acquisition of Caribou by Joh. A. Benckiser Group (JAB) in December 2012. The same company also acquired Peet's Coffee and Tea Inc., which happened in October 2012.

Employees began telling customers Saturday and Sunday about the impending closure.
