Dinner (Samples) and a Movie: Taste of Brookfield Debuts at Cinema

On Sunday in the Marcus Majestic Cinema lobby, 10 local restaurants will showcase samples from their menus, many for $2. Patch has the menu and prices.

Dining out dollars a little stretched? Don't want to spend money on a restaurant or entree that's not tried and true?

Taste of Brookfield & Beyond offers a unique chance to try something new without hurting the wallet.

Nine local restaurants will be offering samples of their menus and Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants will offer a wine tasting. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the lobby of the Marcus Majestic Cinema, 770 N. Springdale Rd., Town of Brookfield. (See the menu items below)

Movie admission is not required. The event is being held separately from Marcus' movie operations. (Although restaurant tastings before a movie might be a nice change from popcorn and coke.)

The Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce first toyed with the idea of a Taste of Brookfield in 2008 but made a renewed push for its this year when restauranteurs showed interest, such as Tony Iannice of Carrabba's Italian Grill.

"Our expectation is that this will be the beginning of an annual festival for years to come," said Carol White, president of the chamber. "It really is to promote the restaurants in the area and showcase some of their items."

White said she was looking forward to autumn-themed samples, such as pumpkin pancakes and maple pulled pork sandwiches from First Watch, located south of Metro Market.

Another favorite: Stir Crazy's Asian slaw ($2 at this weekend's event).

Samples cost $1 to $5 (one item is $7: Teriyaki marinated sirloin from The Melting Pot). Purchases will be via tickets which cost $1 each. Proceeds will benefit the chamber; all participating restaurants are donating the food.

We went yesterday after noon. What a wonderful idea. The food was excellent. We all started out with the Ravioli from Carrabba's which was very good.,
I also had the hugh, delicious Fruity Chicken Salad from First Watch, that was my FAVORITE! My son tried the Pumpkin Pancakes from First watch which he loved! He also tried the Maple pulled pork sandwich from First Watch which was another favorite! My daughter in law also tried the Chicken Marcella which she also enjoyed from Carrabba's. Another purchase she enjoyed was the Asian Slaw from Stir Fry. She also loved the Rhubarb, and Almond Sparkling wines from Cooper's Hawk. We all had a wonderful time. It was so hard to choose, portions were a very, very nice size, you can't beat the prices, and it was a way to try new food from these places. Thank You!!!! and we hope this will be a yearly event!

Over the past several years, there have been several youth from throughout the world who haveRead More attended high school for one academic year in the Elmbrook School District through the Rotary youth exchange program. It is a tremendous opportunity for growth by the young adult, as well as the host family! If you have even the slightest bit of interest, I'd encourage you to contact Bill Petterson from the Elmbrook Rotary. It's a long-standing international program with many checks and balances so the experience is beneficial for all concerned.

We hosted a high school girl from Thailand three years ago and we continue that friendship with herRead More and her family. Not only do you, as a host family give a young person from another country a better understanding of America and Americans, but you learn about the perspectives and viewpoints of people from a totally different culture. It opens up our world view. If you have never hosted, do it!

I believe your first 4 words. After that your credibilty dramatically falls off. The only "beatRead More down" received was by the middle & low income class of Wisconsinites. "As governor, I will sign legislation to prohibit the members of the State Legislature from voting after 10:00 at night or before 9:00 in the morning. This commonsense reform ensures the public has the opportunity to contact elected representatives about their votes on any pending legislation important to them. I have two teenagers and I tell them that nothing good happens after midnight. That's even more true in politics. The people of Wisconsin deserve to know what their elected leaders are voting on." --Scott Walker
