Elite Sports to Acquire Le Club in Glendale

The fitness company run by Kay Yuspeh with two locations in Brookfield and one each in Mequon and Glendale is poised to add Le Club in Glendale. Elite is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Elite Sports Clubs said Thursday it will acquire Le Club of Glendale by month-end, bringing to five the number of locations for the company that just celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Elite owner Kay Yuspeh said it will boost Elite's North Shore facilities by adding 10 indoor tennis courts, three outdoor tennis courts, two indoor pools and one outdoor pool, features Elite’s current Glendale location does not offer due to space limitations.

"This proposed acquisition continues our quest to provide area families with the finest comprehensive fitness clubs that offer something for everyone," said Yuspeh, a Fox Point native who won a Governor's Trailblazer Award in 2007 for women business leaders.

"Le Club has a long history of providing quality fitness services to area residents and we look forward to the opportunity of carrying on this great tradition and taking it to the next level," she said.

Le Club, created in 1972, previously was owned by ClubCorp, a Dallas-based company that owns 150 various clubs in 24 states, the District of Columbia and two foreign countries.

Yuspeh and her husband Richard bought their first club in 1986 and have expanded to operate four state-of-the-art Elite Sports Club sites — two in Brookfield and one each in Mequon and Glendale.

The in Brookfield celebrated its 25-year anniversary last year, and Brookfield's just surpassed its 10-year milestone. In addition to fitness programs for adults and teens, it offers preschool services, piano lessons, rehabilitation programs and more.

Elite has hundreds of physicians who personally are members at the four locations, Yuspeh said.

To celebrate the addition of Le Club, all members of Elite Sports Clubs will get the chance to sample any of the five locations for free in September.
