Jake's Burger Open at Sendik's Towne Centre

Farewell, tacos and margaritas. Hello, burgers and wine.

Jake's Burger held its soft opening Tuesday in the former Haute Taco spot at Sendik's Towne Centre. And now it's up and running, Chef Jake Replogle told Patch.

Replogle, who with his wife Karen also operates Jake's steakhouse in Pewaukee, said he decided burgers and American fare were a "better fit" than Mexican at that location.

"Diners will consume wine and beer on a nonseasonal daily basis and margaritas are more for celebrating and for those summer months," he said. Nationally burgers continue to grow in popularity, he said, with Americans consuming on average a burger a week.

"We have had great success with the burger in Jake's Charred Lounge and thought that this was the time to expand on it," Replogle said.

The burgers, prepared medium with a house blend of short rib, brisket and sirloin, include toppings such as melted brie truffle cheese and haystack onion strings. They range from about $7 to $11.

Salads include roasted beet and wild arugula, and Fuji apple and blue cheese. There is a children's menu with a burger, chicken tenders and grilled cheese.

Jake's Burger also offers 20 different wines by the glass, three dozen beers, and a cocktails list. Bottles of wine run about $25 to $60.

"Our patrons are excited about the new concept and we cannot wait for the Brookfield community to come and enjoy a new casual establishment," Replogle said.
