Valentine's Day Gift Tips

Creative last-minute gift ideas warm the heart.

Valentine’s Day is on a Monday this year, which is good news for procrastinators, who now have through the weekend to figure out a special gift for that someone special.

To help guys think outside the box and give a gift that is just a little more memorable, here are a few ideas.

  • For the fashionistas: Head to Faye’s, at 18900 W. Bluemound Rd., among the Galleria West shops. Sales associates are knowledgeable and more than willing to help you choose from their new arrivals of A-list spring fashion items.
  • For the gourmet food lovers: Does your significant other feel more comfortable in the kitchen than on the runway? Visit Penzeys Spices, at 16750 W. Bluemound Rd., for a bevy of great gift sets for your cook, baker, or griller-extraordinaire. Warning: This gift idea  is for the gal who loves to cook, not for the one who you’d like it if she loved to cook! (Read that sentence twice if you need to!)
  • For the couch potatoes: If your loved one likes to stay in, consider Cocina DeLeon, also located in the Galleria West shops. Owner Linda Mulholland's gourmet enchiladas and side dishes are baked fresh, and then frozen—to be reheated at home. There are many varieties to choose from and they taste fabulous!  Dim the lights, light a few candles and you’ll be set for a romantic "home-cooked" dinner.
  • For the workaholics: Is your gal a little stressed out? Call Kristin Staudt, owner of Back in Balance Therapeutic Massage, at 925 Elm Grove Rd. Staudt will knead out your loved one's kinks so she’ll feel relaxed and knot-free.
  • For the artists: To find one-of-a-kind pottery and jewelry, visit The Potter’s Shop, at 335 W. Main St. in Waukesha. The gallery offers unique items by featured artists, as well as gift cards for their many classes.  With a gift card, your loved one will be  be throwing pottery in no time, and throwing kudos your way for such a fun, unique and thoughtful gift.
