Weekday Market Offers Produce, Food, Entertainment

The Village, a group of local business owners, launched the Thursday night event and plans to keep it running all summer long.

A new weekday event in The Village of Brookfield offers local entertainment, a bite to eat and a chance to restock the shelves with some freshly grown produce.

The Farmers Market event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the summer, according to The Village's Dawn Farina-Condon. Vendors sell items such as produce, hot-and-ready food, cheese, meat and more.

"It is a nice variety and, we're hoping to attract a lot of people from around the area that might want to bike there and walk there and bring the dogs there and have it be a really nice summer event," Farina-Condon said.

The market has been well-received, and Farina-Condon said she's heard plenty of positive feedback.

"It seems to be just getting great response from the people that come," she said. The event has live music almost every week, and the group would love to hear from musicians interested in helping them fill out the calendar. The Village is a group of local businesses in the historical area of the city that formed in an effort to support some of the small businesses in that location, and to help them stick around.

"It was time to try to help support the businesses that are there because so many of them are coming and going and they don’t seem to last, and it's probably because there's no support there," Farina-Condon said. The group started with two people, and has grown to about 30.

The Village is a stretch of Brookfield Road between North Avenue to Burleigh Street; the Farmers Market is held on Brookfield Road and Pleasant Street
