In 2012, Brookfield experienced a wave of openings from Yo Mama!, a popular yogurt chain, to a bar and grill that is sure to be a grand slam.

5. Braun, Rodgers open Brookfield restaurant

The pair of all-stars team up to open 8-twelve MVP Bar and Grill in July. Among those in the packed crowd: the two MVPs, Surg Restaurant Group owner Omar Shaik, Gov. Scott Walker and his wife and sons, Brookfield Mayor Steve Ponto and Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas.

4. Yo Mama! Bustling on Opening Day in Brookfield

When Yo Mama! opened its doors to the public for the first time in Brookfield on April 5, a group of kids had already been waiting outside for 30 minutes. Thanks to their 10-month-old Wauwatosa location, the frozen yogurt store comes to Brookfield with a loyal fan base that keeps the place busy and bodes well for the store's future in the Ruby Isle Shopping Center at 2205 N. Calhoun Rd.

3. Von Maur Store proposed in Town of Brookfield

Wisconsin's first Von Maur store was proposed for the land at Bluemound Road east of Barker Road at the high-profile I-94 exit.

2. New Target Store in Brookfield Opens in July

The with grocery opened as the anchor tenant for a new retail complex dubbed Underwood Crossing at 12821 W. Bluemound Rd. next to Bluemound Bowl.

1. Trader Joe's Opens in Brookfield

Trader Joe's opened in November with free leis, face-painting and the specialty products and wines have made the quirky grocery chain a big hit with fans.
