Drug Collection Returns for 5th Year
Brookfield will be a part of the county-wide effort to collect old and unused prescriptions, aimed to keep drugs out of the water supply, and kids' hands.
April 27th is the date set for the 2013 Drug Collection and Awareness drive, and once again, Brookfield will be one of seven drop-off sites for unused and outdated medications.
Last year's event netted 1,200 pounds and will be held at the Brookfield Recycling Center, where the actual drive-through drop-off will occur inside a city public works garage. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is sponsored by Drug Free Communities of Waukesha County.
What to bring: prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, ointments, sprays, inhalers, creams, vials, herbals and pet medications.

What NOT to bring: Biohazardous materials including sharps, mercury, household hazardous waste and personal hygiene products.
In the past three years, a total of more than 16,000 pounds of medications have been collected county-wide and disposed by volunteers, including officials from Walgreens pharmacy locations.

The effort helps keeps drugs away from those who abuse them, and out of public water supplies.
Additional drop-off sites include Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, Muskego, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee and Waukesha. More information about the Drug-Free coalition is available on its website.
