Obscura Day: Weird Wisconsin Travel Attractions

On a day honoring the obscure, here are some strange sites to check out on those summer trips.

Want to see some weird stuff around Wisconsin this summer?

In honor of Obscura Day today, here are some wacky Wisconsin attractions to put on your bucket list. Maybe some are on the way for your planned summer vacations.

Here's how obscuraday.com describes its focus: "Obscura Day is an international celebration of unusual places, full of expeditions, back room tours & explorations of the hidden wonders in your own hometown."

The closest planned Obscura Day events are over the border in Illinois. The website only lists two obscure sites in Wisconsin: the Mt. Horeb Mustard Museum and the Yerkes Observatory in Lake Geneva.

Know of obscure or weird stuff closer to home? Share in the comments. If you have a photo, even better! Upload it so we all can see.

A Brookfield curiosity: Al Capone's one-time house in Brookfield: http://activerain.com/blogsview/1568295/was-al-capone-living-in-brookfield-wisconsin- Any one have any local Capone stories passed on from great-relatives?

I've heard a few third hand stories about the still on the big room with the slate floor, gun post over the front door, the day revenuers raided the place, etc. However, when you get to exactly who saw it and when, it all vanishes.

Isn't that usually the case, Scott - separating myth from truth is hard to do. But this makes me want to learn more about his time in Brookfield. Wonder how much info is out there in books on Capone, etc.
