Week Ahead: School Closure Vote, Farmers Market Ends, Halloween Events

The week ahead also includes big prep sport action and an informational meeting on a pilot program to inspect private systems for sewer leaks.

Think nothing happens in sleepy Brookfield? Think again. Here are some local issues, sports and events coming up this week, including an expected Elmbrook School Board vote on whether to close .

Also.... mark your calendars: Saturday is the last day of the Brookfield Farmers Market. Last chance to get fresh produce and other goodies. And trick-or-treat is on Halloween night next Monday, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the city and from 6 to 8 p.m. in the town.

School closure vote: Should the Elmbrook School District close one (or more) of its six elementary schools and if so, ? After months of debate, the School Board is poised to vote. Meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at , 16900 W. Gebhardt Rd. Patch plans to the meeting.

Private inspections for sewer leaks: The city will hold an informational meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to explain a pilot program to identify leaks of clear water into sanitary sewers. The pilot, expected to expand into other neighborhoods, takes on added significance given an . The meeting will be in the Courtroom at the , 2100 N. Calhoun Rd.

Sports

Boys soccer at state: Brookfield East boys soccer plays Middleton at 2 p.m. Thursday in the WIAA Division 1 state quarterfinals at Uihlein Soccer Park. If East wins, the team plays the winner of the Green Bay Preble/Marquette game at 6 p.m. Friday at Uihlein.

Girls volleyball sectionals: Brookfield Central girls volleyball hosts the sectional semifinals at 8 p.m. Thursday; Central squares off against Pius. Sectionals also will be held Saturday at Brookfield East, with winners heading to state.

Boys volleyball sectionals: Brookfield East hosts Whitefish Bay at 7 p.m. Friday in the first round of the sectionals. Brookfield Central travels to Tosa West at 7 p.m. Friday.

Football playoffs: Brookfield Central travels to Franklin for a 7 p.m. Friday Round 2 playoff game. Brookfield East will host Whitefish Bay at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Cross-country at state: Central boys and girls cross-country will compete at state Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids, with two individual members of the East boys' team also competing. Brookfield Academy boys and girls cross-country will compete in Division 3 Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

Girls swimming: Brookfield will compete in the GMC championships at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tosa East.

Events

The Fabulous 50s: The Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove will celebrate everything 50s with a tribute show playing three shows: 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 1 p.m. Tuesday.  

Halloween crafts and Haunted Library: Kids of all ages can make all day Thursday at the , 1900 N. Calhoun Rd. And from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, there will be a in the library courtyard for those ages 8 and older.

Last day of Brookfield Farmers Market: The  is closing out the 2011 season, from 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Civic Plaza next to , 2000 N. Calhoun Rd.

Halloween costume contest for pets: Petlicious and the are hosting an from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Petlicious Dog Bakery, 2217 Silvernail Rd., Pewaukee.

Brookfield Academy open house: will hold an at 1 p.m. Sunday at 3460 N. Brookfield Rd. Visitors can meet teachers and students, tour buildings and view curriculum from 1 to 4 p.m. at Patriots Hall.

Halloween at the Haunted Inn: The Dousman Stagecoach Inn will hold a from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Tour the haunted inn, have your fortune told, play games and more. Desserts and drinks are included, and a treat bag for children. Visitors can come in costume.
