Author discusses "The Dollar-a-Day Boys" (MON): Michigan author Bill Jamerson will give presentation on the history of the Civilian Conservation Corps, with stories of work camps and original songs. Rummage sale at Christ the King (THU-SAT): With proceeds benefitting the Youth Gathering, will hold a large rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the church, 4600 Pilgrim Rd.

Democratic Party meeting (THU): The Waukesha County Democratic Party will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at 1726 S. West Ave., Waukesha. "Join us for conversations and learn how to be part of the solution in 2012 and beyond," the group's events listing says.

Bishop to lead prayer service at St. Dominic (FRI): Milwaukee Auxiliary Bishop Donald J. Hying will lead an all-school prayer service and rosary at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic Parish School, 18105 W. Capitol Dr.

Brookfield East forensics at Sharon Lynne (FRI): The Forensics Team will present its performances that will compete at the 2012 NCFL and NFL National Tournament. The public event — which is free but donations accepted for tournament travel costs — will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the , 19805 W. Capitol Dr. 

Pancake breakfast, car show and sock-hop dance (SAT): American Legion Post 449 will hold special events on Saturday for Armed Forces Day at the legion post, 3245 N. 124th St., Brookfield. A pancake breakfast ($6 for adults, $4 for children ages 3 to 12) will be held from 8 a.m. to noon; a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with trophies, raffles and food; and a sock hop dance featuring The Starlites at 8 p.m. All events are free to attend.

Kerwin Hackett Benefit (SAT): A car wash, raffle and dance will be held Saturday to help the family of Kerwin Hackett, an 8th grader at seriously injured in a skiing accident during a trip to South Korea in December. The car wash will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pilgrim Park, 1500 Pilgrim Parkway, Elm Grove, with a raffle and silent auction from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and DJ/Dance from 6 to 9 p.m.

Bird Migratory Day Celebration (SAT): A variety of family-friendly bird-related activities will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Nature Center behind Brookfield East High School, 3305 Lilly Rd.

Brookfield Farmers Market (SAT): Every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, the is held in the parking lots and Civic Plaza next to , 2000 N. Calhoun Rd.

Elm Grove Village Park Clean-Up (SAT): Come join the Elmbrook Rotary Club and Brookfield East Interact Club for a post-Earth Day event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, cleaning up Honey Creek Parkway along the Elm Grove Village Park.
