Week Ahead: National Night Out, School Test Scores and Big Splash Day

This week also features outdoor concerts in Elm Grove and Brookfield, and concealed carry firearm training at a hotel.

Who are Elmbrook's comparable districts? Against which districts should Elmbrook judge its standardized test results? The School Board's Assessment and Continuous Improvement Committee will discuss benchmark data and plan for upcoming board work sessions at a 3:15 p.m. meeting Monday in the district administration building, 13780 Hope St.

The devil's in the Von Maur/TIF details: The Town Board plans a closed-door session to discuss the details of a to help fund public improvements in and around the proposed new department store. Construction has been put off until spring 2013, pending necessary final approvals. The Town Board meets at 7 p.m. at , 645 N. Janacek Road.

Sister City trip debriefed: The most recent Sister City in June will be among the items discussed by the Sister Cities Committee, which meets at 8 a.m. Thursday at .

Elm Grove Tunes on Tuesday: The blues band Hounds Tooth performs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in Elm Grove Village Park, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Civic Plaza noon concert: The Jenny Thiel Trio performs a jazz concert from 12 to 1 p.m. Wedesday in the Civic Plaza between the  and the , 2100 N. Calhoun Road. 

National Night Out: With country music by Crossfire, crime prevention tips and family fun activities, Brookfield's National Night Out runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the Community Walk Against Crime starting at 8:30 p.m., in the city's Civic Plaza, 2000 N. Calhoun Road. The law firm Habush, Habush and Rottier will distribute .

Big Splash Day in Town: Plan to get wet from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Marx Park, 700 S. Barker Road. Bring your squirt guns and water balloons and the town will have water hoses and sprinklers for a couple hours of water fun with refreshments provided.

Puppets and legos: Puppet theater will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, and Lego Club at 10 a.m. Saturday at the , 1900 N. Calhoun Road. 

Distinguished Young Women of Wisconsin Competition: About a dozen area young women will compete to represent Wisconsin in the 2012 national event in Alabama. The competition begins at 2 p.m. at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, 901 15th Ave. in South Milwaukee.

Brookfield Farmers' Market: The  is held from 7:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October, attracting about 4,000 people weekly. It's held in the Civic Plaza next to City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

Concealed Carry classes: A two-hour will be held at the , 1250 S. Moorland Road.
