Week Ahead: School Closure Choice, Art Festival, Elephants

The Elmbrook School Board might make a final elementary school closure recommendation Tuesday.

School closure recommendation: Close Elementary School, Elementary or both next fall? The Elmbrook School Board hopes to at its 6 p.m. meeting at the district's central administrative offices, 13780 Hope St. Board documents on the issue are here.

The recommendation will be presented to the community at two yet-to-be-scheduled information meetings, and a final vote could be taken by the School Board in October.

Select new alderman: The city's Legislative and Licensing Committee will interview the two applicants for an aldermanic seat — — at 8 p.m. Wednesday at , 2000 N. Calhoun Road. The committee may recommend one for appointment at the Common Council's Sept. 20 meeting.

Should more homes be built by Shire, landfill? A landfill moratorium committee will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at . The committee will review groundwater test data and other information to help determine whether the city should lift a moratorium on further development in the Shire subdivision off Brookfield Road.

Read to Rover: Children can register to read aloud to a certified therapy dog and trainer at the , 1900 N. Calhoun Road. Children can select days and times during the five-week session.

Dynamic Duos at Sunset Playhouse: The Elm Grove theater will toast famous pairs — Sonny & Cher, Ike & Tina, Steve & Edie — at three shows, 7:30 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Hidden River Arts Festival: More than 80 Wisconsin artists will be featured at the sixth annual juried festival at in . The event, which runs Friday through Sunday, will include a and allow patrons to participate in a "community involved, site-specific work of art” built on the Wilson Center grounds. 

Brookfield Farmers Market: The  is held from 7:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October, attracting about 4,000 people weekly. It's held in the Civic Plaza next to City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.

First Stage drama classes: Children in K5 to 4th grade can get a taste of the stage in a from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the , 1900 N. Calhoun Road. 

Camp Bow Wow One Year Anniversary: Join the Elmbrook Humane Society as it celebrates Camp Bow Wow's anniversary from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1707 Paramount Court in Waukesha. On tap: food, games, entertainment and prizes such as the chance to win free boarding or day camps.

: The Milwaukee County Zoo celebrates everything elephant with special events from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
