Week Ahead: Trimming Labor Costs, Carnival and State Baseball Tourney

This week also brings the final Starry Nights concert of the summer and a possible Plan Commission vote on a paintball business.

Eliminating an Elmbrook assistant superintendent: In the new world of education funding, when an assistant superintendent leaves, is that position replaced? , as the Elmbrook School Board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at district offices, 13780 Hope St., on a plan to restructure the human resources duties. The move boosts pay and duties for two existing employees, but is slated to save the district about $93,400 a year.

Paintball and laser tag in the town: The Town of Brookfield Plan Commission will hold a public hearing and may vote on a request to open gym , airsoft fields and bounce houses at 21875 Doral Dr. Anyone can come speak on the proposal at the 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday at , 645 Janacek Road.

Imperial Park planning: With some neighbors opposed to , some simply wanting a different park entrance, and others backing park improvements, a park committee will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at , 2000 N. Calhoun Road to continue discussions.

Sports

Playing in the state baseball tourney: Congrats to the Brookfield East High team that in a late rally Saturday in Germantown. The Spartans travel to Stevens Point to take on Marquette at 10 a.m. Wednesday for the state quarterfinals.

Entertainment

The final Starry Nights concert: Friday is your last chance this summer to enjoy a free outdoor concert at the . Bring dinner and wine and listen to the Wilson Center Big Band perform swing, big band and standards. The brass starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Civic Plaza noon concert: Pianist-vocalist Al White performs R&B and adult contemporary for the free lunch hour concert in the Civic Plaza between the and the , 2100 N. Calhoun Road.

Herzing University Community Appreciation Event: Herzing is inviting the public to enjoy BBQ, Bakers Square pie samples, games, crafts, prizes and an art display. The second annual event will be held from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m. Saturday at Herzing, 555 S. Executive Dr. and Brookfield Patch will be there.

Carnival at the library: Have fun playing "old-fashioned games" at the library. You remember? Board games, cards... anything not computerized. The carnival is at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the , 1900 N. Calhoun Road. 

Also at the library this week: Passport to Germany, 2 to 3 p.m. Monday; Decorate a Shirt, 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday; and Puppet Theater, 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Summer Movie: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa plays at 1 p.m. Monday at the Elm Grove Public Library, 13600 Juneau Blvd.

Brookfield Farmers' Market: The is held from 7:30 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October, attracting about 4,000 people weekly. It's held in the Civic Plaza next to City Hall, 2000 N. Calhoun Road.
