Town of Brookfield Takes Center Stage

The governor signed a bill at Town Hall, and a resident started an effort to change the town into a village.

Town of Brookfield news dominated this week's Brookfield Patch, with the governor signing a bill at Town Hall giving the town a rare tool to help finance the Von Maur redevelopment project, and a resident starting a petition to seek incorporation of the town as a village.

Here's a look back at some of this week's stories on Brookfield Patch:

Sunday: In his weekly Patch column, Congressman Jim in Wauwatosa after the angry crowd turned on him and state Sen. Leah Vukmir. On a lighter note, Brookfield Patch posted a that as a surprise for students in a reading contest. (Some girls screamed when they thought a teacher was Justin Bieber.)

Monday: At an , candidates disagreed on issues such as adding 4-year-old kindergarten or closing an elementary school. In crime news, Brookfield Patch broke stories about and the police, including the wallet of state Sen. Dale Kooyenga.

Tuesday: The Town of Brookfield Plan Commission redevelopment at Barker Road and I-94. including vandalism in the high schools' "Junior-Senior Wars," as well as a "sexting" warning, workplace accident, federal agent losing his badge, and student selling her prescription Aderrall.

Wednesday: The Waukesha , over the objections of speakers who marched in the rain. Dixon Elementary School Principal , with students presenting her with flowers and singing songs (watch video) including one made famous on "Glee." 

Thursday:  to give the town the power to create a tax incremental financing district to fund roads, sewers and water lines for the redevelopment of the vacant West Point Cinemas and Menards. A shows the areas that could be razed to make way for the new retail and office project.

Friday: Longtime town resident Jay Walt started the process to seek state approval to , which would stop adjacent cities from annexing town land. Brookfield Patch also offered its weekly features such as , and . 

Saturday: Brookfield teenagers are members of the  at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. The show features rock music from the '60s to the present, including songs from Madonna, Michael Jackson, Journey and Queen.
