Dinosaurs at the Elm Grove Public Library!

The Elm Grove Public Library has some great events for kids this week! Don’t miss out on these fun programs:

At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, we’ll be showing the movie “Dinosaur,” a Walt Disney Feature Animation from 2000 about a dinosaur that grows up with a family of lemurs. The film is computer-animated and has received high praise for its beautiful visuals.

At 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, David Landau will visit the library and perform “Have Guitar—Will Travel.” Kids love his humor and music, and this is definitely going to be a great show. Landau was named “Best Kids’ Entertainment” in 2013 by Madison Magazine.

And after the events are over, you can check out some books to continue the fun at home! We have plenty of books about dinosaurs that kids will love. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

Dinothesaurus by Douglas Florian: If you want to learn about dinosaurs but don’t want to read a regular book about them, try out this one! This poetry book includes poems about a variety of dinosaurs, along with drawings of each one.

The Magic School Bus in the Time of the Dinosaurs by Joanna Cole, with illustrations by Bruce Degen: Learn about dinosaurs with Ms. Frizzle’s class! While out on a dinosaur dig, the Magic School Bus transports the class back to the time when dinosaurs lived. Travel with the class to the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods and see how dinosaurs lived.

Dinosaurs! by Gail Gibbons: This book is great for children who have just become interested in dinosaurs. It includes descriptions of many different dinosaurs, and it has beautiful, bright illustrations. Young readers will have a great time with it.

They Lived With the Dinosaurs by Enid Fisher, with illustrations by Richard Grant: In the movie “Dinosaurs,” lemurs live at the same time as dinosaurs. However, scientists have shown that this wasn’t actually the case in real life. If you want to know what creatures DID live alongside the dinosaurs, this book will tell you!

The Extinction of the Dinosaurs by Don Nardo: Why did the dinosaurs die out? Nobody knows for sure, but this book will help you understand some of the possible reasons for the mass extinction.
