Greetings and Welcome to Our Very First Blog Post!

Thanks for reading.

Greetings to all!

Welcome to the Elmbrook Humane Society blog, created for all of the special and wonderful pet lovers out there.

Let me introduce myself, I'm Rachel, Elmbrook Humane Society's Community Outreach Director. I'll take you on a fantastic journey through the life behind the scenes of a no-kill shelter and I'll update you with important news, facts and stories affecting the animal community.

First, I'll start off with some information about Elmbrook Humane Society (EBHS) and why I can't get enough of this place.

  1. NO-KILL!!  EBHS is a NO-KILL shelter, the only one in Waukesha County and we're dang proud of it too! Every single healthy, treatable and adoptable animal will reside at EBHS as a temporary resident until they are lucky enough to find their forever home. We choose life, and that's pretty exciting stuff!
  2. The little shelter that could! EBHS is the little shelter with the great BIG, GIANT heart. We give every one of our animals, adopters, donors, friends, sponsors, business partners, etc. the individual attention they need and deserve. We love giving hands-on attention to all of the animals that crawl, walk and/or leap into our shelter.
  3. This is a JOB?! I can't necessarily call my work at EBHS a job... only because I love being here every single day and I cannot imagine spending the majority of my day elsewhere. The shelter is just that, we provide temporary shelter to homeless animals. As an animal lover, I personally fall head over heels for each animal that arrives here, along with the other EBHS staff members. I cry with joy every single time one of these animals find their forever home — I can't call this a job if it makes me so incredibly happy.
  4. Lastly, being able to see puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, ferrets, gerbils, mice and more — how could you not love this place?

I have two little fur babies myself, Cooper (Boston Terrier/Rat Terrier mix) and Mac (Rat Terrier) an EBHS alum! I'm sure you will hear lots about them in this blog. I'll be really cliche here and say on record that they're the best dogs in the world (doesn't every pet owner say this?)!
