SCHOOL DISTRICT OF ELMBROOK
Hillside Elementary to Close in 2012-13, Redistricting Plan Feedback Sessions November 2
The Board of Education voted on Oct. 25 to close Hillside Elementary School effective school year 2012-13. The elementary school closure decision was made to address declining resident enrollment, excess elementary school capacity and a district budget shortfall. Superintendent Dr. Matt Gibson will hold Redistricting Feedback Sessions on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m and 8 p.m. at Wisconsin Hills Middle School. Parents are encouraged to attend either or both sessions to provide feedback on the current redistricting scenarios being reviewed.The Board of Education will discuss the redistricting scenarios and feedback from Nov. 2 sessions at its meeting on Nov. 8. Action on a redistricting plan may occur on Nov. 22.

Elmbrook Middle Schools Honored
Pilgrim Park and Wisconsin Hills Middle Schools have once again earned Exemplary Middle School honors in a program sponsored by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA) to recognize schools that have set and met high standards based on state test scores supplied by the Department of Public Instruction.This is the fifth year for the Exemplary Middle School program. Instituted through AWSA’s Middle Level Advisory Committee, the Exemplary Middle School recognition program reviewed academic achievement records for 334 eligible schools based on grade-level configuration. Schools earn recognition for significant three-year growth in reading or math scores with growth in the past year and/or reading or math scores in the top 10 percent in the past year. Of the eligible schools, 69 received certificates indicating their status as Exemplary Middle Schools of 2011. These schools are eligible for the 2011-12 Wisconsin Middle School of Excellence Awards. Congratulations, PPMS and WHMS!

Grease Musical Dec. 2-4, Tickets Available Now
The musical "Grease" will be performed at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center on Friday, December 2nd through Sunday, December 4th.

WISCONSIN HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL
Wildcat Café Supports Breast Cancer Research
One day, each month, students and staff from Ms. Corso's classroom open up the doors to the Wildcat Café. Baked treats and delicious hot beverages can be purchased at the café. In October, the Café offered pink ribbon bagels from Panera for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All proceeds from the bagel sale were donated for breast cancer research. Ms. Corso's students and staff serve each and every item with a big smile and friendly service. It is an experience that is enjoyed by all who come.


BURLEIGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Veteran’s Day Assembly Nov. 11
Burleigh will be having an all-school Veterans Day assembly to celebrate and honor all those who served in the military. To make this special day even more meaningful, our students sent in the names of their family members who have served or currently are serving in the military. Each name will be written on a star and used as a decoration for the assembly. The assembly will take place in the main gym on November 11, from 10:25am -11:11am and will include performances by the 5th grade band and orchestra, two all-school patriotic songs, and visits from special honorary guests. Students are encouraged to wear red, white or blue on 11/11/11.


DIXON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Dixon’s Partnership with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra
Dixon has once again started another exciting year of learning. The ACE (Arts in Community Education) Program is well underway. ACE is Dixon's partnership with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra which began in 1991. Dixon School is now the only Elmbrook elementary school fortunate enough to participate in this fine arts experience with the symphony. All Kindergarten through fifth grade students will again be participating in the ACE Program. Each grade will receive three or four presentations by various ensembles throughout the year. These will be scheduled during the school day, and parents are invited to come. There will also be an early evening presentation – The ACE Family Night Concert – for the whole family. This special event will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, beginning at 6 p.m. Lastly, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a concert at the Performing Arts Center to each grade level that includes music the students will have learning throughout the year. These concerts will take place in April, 2012.


SWANSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Second Graders Celebrate National Book Week
In honor of National Book Week, the second graders at Swanson Elementary dressed up as one of their favorite book characters. The students brought in their books, props relating to the stories and shared something they learned about the stories with their classmates. Afterwards, they enjoyed a classroom celebration.


TONAWANDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Visit from the Elm Grove Fire Department
Each year, The Elm Grove Fire Department joins us for our October Fire Drill. This year, their visit occurred on October 11. After the drill, many of our younger classrooms had a ball looking at the trucks and watching several staff members (including Mrs. Kasmarick, and several of our new staff members) go up, up, up in the bucket! 


FAIRVIEW SOUTH SCHOOL

Craft Fair and Silent Auction Dec. 2
Fairview South will be hosting our Annual Craft Fair and Silent Auction on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fairview South.
The Silent Auction will be bigger than ever with many wonderful items to bid on.
