SCHOOL DISTRICT OF ELMBROOK
District Announces Mark Hansen as Next Superintendent
The School District of Elmbrook Board of Education has selected Mr. Mark Hansen as the district’s next superintendent. Mr. Hansen, currently the Chief Academic Officer in the Pewaukee School District, will succeed Dr. Matt Gibson, who is retiring effective June 30 after 17 years of service. Mr. Hansen’s contract begins July 1. For more information, visit www.elmbrookschools.org.

Summer School Registration is by Mail: March 10-30
Elmbrook Summer School will begin on Monday, June 18. The K-8 session will be held at Pilgrim Park Middle School and runs through July 13, with no student attendance on July 4. The High School session will be held at Brookfield East High School and runs through July 20. Registration materials are now available at www.elmbrookschools.org/summerschool. Registration is by mail only and materials must be postmarked between the dates of March 10 and March 30.

Elmbrook Announces Four Presidential Scholar Candidates
The School District of Elmbrook is proud to announce that four members of the Class of 2012 have been named candidates in the 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Candidates are Aditya Trivedi, Advik Shreekumar and Chang Ge (Brookfield East) and Dee Luo (Brookfield Central).  

Your Choice Drug & Alcohol Awareness Parent Presentation March 12 
All parents are invited to a "Your Choice" presentation about the devastating effects of drug and alcohol abuse on young people. The parent presentation is Monday, March 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Wisconsin Hills Middle School. All district 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will be attending a "Your Choice" presentation the following day at school. Board of Education Candidate Forum March 22 
Two seats are up for election on April 3 for the Elmbrook Schools Board of Education. Candidates for the At-large seat are Meg Wartman (Incumbent) and Lynne Thomas. Candidates for the Area IV seat are Jean Lambert (Incumbent) and Paul Byrne. Each Board member represents the entire school district; therefore residents should select one candidate for each seat. The Elmbrook Parent Leadership Council will hold a Candidate Forum on Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. at the Elmbrook Schools Central Administrative Office, 13780 Hope Street, Brookfield. Parent Network "Simple Truths" Event March 22
Of special interest to parents of young children up through 5th grade: Elmbrook Parent Network is hosting two screenings of Mary Flo Ridley's DVD entitled "Simple Truths: A Simple, Natural Approach to Discussing Sex with Your Children." Please join Parent Network on Thursday, March 22 at 9:30 am at Brookfield Elementary or 7 p.m. at Dixon Elementary to view the program. BROOKFIELD EAST HIGH SCHOOL
Moody's Math Challenge
Please congratulate Sreedevi Nair, Veronica Telega, Advik Shreekumar, Aditya Trivedi, and Chih-Wei Wu for completing East's 1st ever Moody's Challenge, the fourteen-hour mathematical modeling and consulting scholarship competition. 

Forensics Places 2nd in Tournament
In a field of 32 schools, Brookfield East Forensics scored an all-time high point finish, closing the gap between 1st and 2nd place to only three rank points overall — the closest finish at a tournament this season on Saturday, March 3 at the James Madison Memorial Tournament. Momentum continues to build on the team! Team Results: 1st Place, Madison Memorial HS (349 points); 2nd Place, Brookfield East HS (346 points); 3rd Place, Sun Prairie HS (304 points); 4th Place, Madison West HS (275 points);5th Place, Sheboygan South HS (266 points).

State Hockey Success
Congratulations to the Brookfield Stars and Kettle Moraine Glaciers for advancing to the state tournament!

Cheerleaders Place 2nd at State
Congratulations to the BEHS cheerleaders who took 2nd at State on Feb. 25th. The girls placed 3rd at regionals and 2nd in the d2 small varsity division at state. The girls that went to state were: Moira Schuneman, Jenna Hatab, Ali Close, Hannah Hewitt, Jordan Lawerence, Cheyenne Fischer, Tiffany Dasher, Molly Niemi, Samantha Vento, Tiffany Bianco, Katie Hoerig and Louise Lloyd.

BEHS Teacher Earns Special Award
Jenny Austino, Brookfield East Latin teacher, has won the Kraft Award for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS). Named for CAMWS benefactor Eunice E. Kraft, this award recognizes outstanding teachers of Latin in public or private schools (middle schools included) within CAMWS territory. Mrs. Austino was nominated by Elyce Moschella of Brookfield Central and Dr. Keely Lake of Wayland Academy.

Brookfield Jaycees Distinguished Service Award
Each February the Elmbrook superintendent has the opportunity to recommend an outstanding school district employee for the Brookfield Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. Concurrently, the Brookfield Fire and Police Chiefs have respective opportunities to recommend an outstanding firefighter and police officer. All three award winners were honored at an Annual Distinguished Service Awards Banquet on March 2 at the Venice Club. This year Dr. Gibson has awarded BEHS Athletic Director Corey Golla as the recipient of the 2012 Brookfield Jaycees Distinguished Service Award. Congratulations Corey!

BEHS "The Boys Next Door" Play March 31-April 1
BEHS will present "The Boys Next Door," a two act comedy-drama on Friday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Wilson Center Box Office at 262-781-9520. Adults $16; Seniors (over 60) $12; Students/Children $10.

BROOKFIELD CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL
SMART Team to Present Project at the Medical College
Louise Thompson, BCHS science teacher, and a team of 13 students, will be at the Medical College of Wisconsin on two dates in March presenting their SMART Team project. The SMART team (Student Modeling a Research Topic) has spent part of this year examining UCP2 (uncoupling protein 2), a mitochondrial membrane transport protein involved in reducing the number of damaging oxygen radicals formed after a heart attack when the blood flow is returned to the heart tissue (reperfusion). The team is working with Martin Bienengraeber from the Medical College. The exact mechanism of action of the protein is not known, but the team is proposing two possible mechanisms. The team members are: Deepti Ajjampore, Krishti Bhowmick, Alex Chen, Ramprasad Karanam, Raga Komandur, Kingshuk Mazumdar, Nikil Prasad, Sahana Ravindran, Rishi Sachdev, John Scanlon, Nikita Sood, Emily Strack and Brian Zhu. They will present the poster segment of their research on Friday, March 9 from 4-6 p.m. at the Medical College, first floor foyer area behind the auditorium and the oral segment from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 in the Medical College Auditorium. Lancer Forensic Team Successful in Greater Metro Conference Tournament
The Lancer Forensic team, coached by Greg Groh and Noah Kaufman, competed in the Greater Metro Conference tournament Feb. 18 & 19 and performed very well. They barely lost out to Wauwatosa East High School in the Quality Points category (the average number of points per participant), meaning that for small teams in the GMC, they were officially the 2nd most efficient.

Central’s Boys Ski Team's Trip to State
Congratulations to the Brookfield Central Boys' Varsity Ski Team for qualifying for the State Championship in La Crosse in February! The Varsity team includes seniors Jack Peterson, Ryan Tuck and Dylan Goetzke along with juniors John Heal, Eric Anderson and Thomas Markey. 

BCHS "iRelate" Musical Revue March 1-10
BCHS will present a new musical revue production, "iRelate," on March 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 7 p.m. in the BCHS Black Box Theater. WISCONSIN HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL
It's Show Time! WHMS Variety Show March 9
It’s that time of year again….time for the WHMS Variety Show! Mrs. Camden and Mrs. Longrie have worked together for the past six years to keep this tradition alive at WHMS. This year’s show will consist of 21 entertaining acts. Individuals, duos and groups will showcase their talents which include singing, dancing, playing musical instruments as well as a demonstration of flexibility. In addition, four 8th grade students will MC the event and 8 talented students will keep the show running by taking care of lights, sound and props. The show will take place on Friday, March 9th in the WHMS gymnasium at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and will be on sale Tuesday, March 6th through Friday, March 9th at WHMS during lunch hours.

Save the Date: Run for the Hills May 6!  
Wisconsin Hills Middle School is proud to carry on the tradition of the beloved Hillside Hawk Walk/Run. This year's event will be called "Run for the Hills!” Proceeds will benefit the Hillside Student Scholarship Fund and WHMS Technology Improvement Fund. The timed 5K Run/Walk, kids' fun run, and celebrity Mascot Race will take place on Sunday, May 6th at 1 p.m. at Mitchell Park. We truly hope that you can all join in the fun! On Tuesday, Feb. 28, a select ensemble of 7th and 8th grade Choir students sang the National Anthem at the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball game at the Bradley Center!!!


TONAWANDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Tonawanda students “Do the Right Thing”
"Do the Right Thing" is the 2011-2012 Tonawanda school theme and students have been focusing on doing just that not only in the classroom but through several community service projects. The school has supported its buddy school Cross Trainers Academy, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, the Friends of Elm Grove Library, Salvation Army, Hope Center, Richards Place, La Case de Esperanza and Waukesha Springs Health and Rehabilitation.
