BURLEIGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Burleigh’s Geography Bee
Thursday, Jan. 5th, members of the National Geographic Geography Bee Club at Burleigh Elementary school participated in an official Geo Bee. Club members had been preparing for the event over the past month, using study resources, online quizzes and games. More than 20 4th and 5th graders competed to test their knowledge of world geography, trying to decipher questions that many adults couldn't answer. All participants competed in an exciting Preliminary round, in which each student answered seven questions. The six highest scoring students advanced to the Final round. From the Final round, Mark B. and Peter G. advanced to the Championship round that consisted of three written questions. Fourth grader Mark B. was the champion of the 2012 Burleigh Geography Bee. Mark will take a written test in an attempt to qualify for the state-level National Geographic Geography Bee. Over 500 Wisconsin schools are taking part in the event, which culminates in a televised national final in Washington D.C. Congratulations to all the participants!
