From the Farmer's Market to the Dinner Table
Sometimes a walk through the farmer's market inspires the menu for the week — here's what our family found during our most recent trip.
Today as the fam strolled through the Brookfield Farmer's Market, the amazing products we passed inspired our dinner menu, and a few more dishes for the week.
A delish-looking recipe for Pork Chops with Chimichurri showed up in my inbox this week. Garlic, onions and a bunch of cilantro went into the bag for the herb sauce. Fresh sweet corn? Don't mind if we do. And ohhh, some little red potatoes — they looked like they had just been plucked from the ground!
I was drawn to a tent by the smell of fresh basil, but we've got a monster plant growing in my garden, so I skipped it (though it did inspire me to try making some pesto this week). The same vendor had some awesome-looking Dinosaur Kale, so I picked up a bunch. We grab something new to try every week.

We sampled some ridiculously good cherries and picked up a basket for dessert, if they lasted long enough! The kids had just picked a big bowl of raspberries in the back yard the evening before, and the oat topping we had just passed would make for a fab berry crisp....
I may have hinted a few times to my husband that the calla lilies at some of the booths we passed were REALLY gorgeous, but no luck. ;) They would have made a great centerpiece for dinner!

We can't wait to go back next week — I'm thinking fresh eggs and veggies for a fritatta, herbs and veggies for fresh salsa, some cheesy chicken enchilada soup if we get there before it's gone, some crusty bread to serve with a meal or snack on with one of the tasty Wisconsin cheeses, maybe some ribeyes for a date night dinner... Getting hungry? I know I am!
