Elmbrook Humane Society Leads the Way as No-Kill Shelter

Elmbrook Humane Society makes Brookfield one of the safest places in America for companion animals.

Elmbrook Humane Society has released their animal care statistics for the first two-thirds of 2012 and they are outstanding! As you can see from the pie charts — they have saved the lives of 98% of the dogs and 92% of the cats that have come through their doors this year, giving them an average live release rate of 95%.

The definition of a No Kill community is one that maintains a 90% or better live release rate and is an "open admission" shelter, meaning that they are obligated to take in strays and animals surrendered by people who live in the area served by the shelter. The generous allowance of 10% is reserved for true euthanasia of animals that are irremediably suffering or dangerously aggressive.
