The Road Not Taken... But Please Consider It

"One's destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things." ~ Henry Miller

Alarm going off... that is a car alarm. For the second Saturday in a row I have witnessed some interesting driving in the Brookfield area. This morning I awoke to the piercing sound of a car alarm going off. Now given that I live in a neighborhood where the houses are pretty well spaced, this caused me to take a look out my bedroom window. There parked in my neighbor's front yard was a small sports car with the alarm going off.

Well, it turns out that this was where the car came to a stop after grazing the utility pole between our yards; taking out my neighbor's mailbox and meeting up with a fallen tree. No one in sight, it appeared that the driver bailed from the scene leaving behind a car with the alarm going off.

The past two Saturdays have heightened my awareness that many vehicles in the area seem to be using alternate pathways of travel lately. Last Saturday, I observed a  big red truck laying sideways near a gas station at the corner of 124th and North Avenue. I could only wonder how a truck gets to the point of being on its side in a residential area. The driver in this case did not appear as lucky as the one in my neighbor's yard (whom as I mentioned was nowhere in sight.)

It made me think that with all the roads we have why would people "choose" not to use them? Hmm... I guess my work with the Elm Grove Citizen's Police Academy has sort of made me into a detective these days. My hypothesis is that the driver of the truck was more than likely driving too fast and in an attempt to miss another person or vehicle turned too quickly and flipped over. As far as the car in my neighbor's yard, I believe that the driver may have had a few too many drinks (it appeared that the vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the street).

So, as we move into another week I'd like to point out something that most of us probably take for granted. There are many roads all around us. These roads have a very specific purpose, for vehicles to get from point A to point B. When driving, we all need to consider that this will make a difference.

Happy Saturday and please drive safely!!!

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, And I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.
