St. John Vianney first graders put on the annual Big Pumpkin Play on Thursday, Oct. 25th to help usher in Halloween and implement language arts lessons. The play helps the students practice sequencing of events in the context of story-telling and oral presentation skills, such as making eye contact, and using the correct volume and tone, among other things.

The children created their own costumes including bats, mummies, witches and vampires that echoed the characters in the playfully spooky rhyme they recited for a packed auditorium.

Wide grins were present on more than just the pumpkins as the children wrapped up their delightful Halloween tale.

A party followed in each first grade classroom, giving parents a chance to visit with each other, the teachers and the kids. It was also a great way to meet some of the new families that joined the school this year.
