Is Tommy Thompson the Right Candidate for Senate?

Former Wisconsin governor and Bush administration cabinet member Tommy Thompson is running for U.S. Senate. Is he the best choice for Republicans to take over retiring Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl's seat?

Former Gov. Tommy Thompson is making a run for the U.S. Senate. Is he Republicans best choice?

Thompson brings instant name recognition to a wide-open race to replace Sen. Herb Kohl. He's won statewide elections, and his experience would help him get things done in Washington.

Thompson brings baggage. He'll have to answer questions about his spending as governor, including massive deficits he left behind, and he was a polarizing figure in the state. He's also older, which means Republicans could be looking for another candidate in six years. Finally, Sen. Ron Johnson came from relative obscurity to beat incumbent Sen. Russ Feingold. A low-profile businessman may be more difficult for Democrats to attack.

I think you have Kohl confused with Sensenbrenner. Substitute Congressman for Senator, and you have it.

Yeah. Just like a lefty. Vote for a guy whose name you can't even spell. I'll bet you 100. Bucks to charity there won't be any recall. You in?

Surprised to see our poll results. Obviously not scientific, but didn't expect 2:1 against Tommy.

I think it's realistic.

Gee, has everyone forgotten - Tommy came back to WI stating he 'hated Washington'. He's a money man for Repubs.
